  • Date of Writing: The Book of 3 John would most likely have been written at about the same time as John's other letters, 1 and 2 John, between A.D. Purpose of Writing: John's purpose in writing this third epistle is threefold.
  • 2 Thessalonians 3, King James Version (KJV) Soliciting Their Support Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: and that.
  • 1 The elder, To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth: 2 Beloved, I pray that in every way you may prosper and enjoy good health, as your soul also prospers. 3 For I was overjoyed when the brothers came and testified about your devotion to the truth, in which you continue to walk.
  • 2Co 3:2 - You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone.

Philippians 3:2. ``the face of that generation (in which the Messiah shall come) shall he, ( blkh ynpk), 'as the face of a dog'.' The apostle calls them so, because they returned to Judaism, as the dog to its vomit, ( 2 Peter 2:22 ); and because of the uncleanness in which many of them lived, and the impudence they were guilty of in.

New Jerusalem Bible

The New Jerusalem Bible (NJB) is a Catholic translation of the Bible published in 1985. The New Jerusalem Bible (NJB) has become the most widely used Roman Catholic Bible outside of the United States. It has the imprimatur of Cardinal George Basil Hume.

Like its predecessor, the Jerusalem Bible, the New Jerusalem Bible (NJB) version is translated 'directly from the Hebrew, Greek or Aramaic.' The 1973 French translation, the Bible de Jerusalem, is followed only 'where the text admits to more than one interpretation.' Introductions and notes, with some modifications, are taken from the Bible de Jerusalem.

Source: The Very Reverend Dom (Joseph) Henry Wansbrough, OSB, MA (Oxon), STL (Fribourg), LSS (Rome), a monk of Ampleforth Abbey and a biblical scholar. He was General Editor of the New Jerusalem Bible. 'New Jerusalem Bible, Regular Edition', pg. v.
